Skinny Water Recipe
I enjoy making inventive, healthful drinks, and my low-calorie Vitamin Water, which I have named “Skinny Water,” is one of my favorites. It contains no artificial flavors and is easy to prepare.
Just four cups of filtered water form the base, and then I slice cucumber, lemon, and lime very thinly. These three ingredients do the infusing and flavoring—just as they would if the water were to be served in a slightly upscale restaurant.
After that combo sits and mingles for a good spell (at least an hour), I pack my drink full of fresh mint from my garden (well, the community garden—shout-out to Eugene, Oregon!). Mint, a close cousin of the herb pennyroyal, is the perfect garnish, both aromatic and flavorful.
There are, however, two traditional Southern ways to serve mint in a drink. One is to muddle mint into the beverage; the other is to use mint sprigs as a garnish.
I like to do both in my reinvention of the Mint Julep: number 2.
Ingredients
Vitamin K and antioxidants abound in this low-calorie, hydrating food that teems with certain elements like these.
Lemon: This fruit is rich in vitamin C; it adds an invigoratingly sour taste and aids in digestion.
Lime: Rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, it delivers a punch of bright citrus flavor.
Fresh and aromatic, mint facilitates digestion and has anti-inflammatory characteristics.
Ginger: Contributes a warm, spicy quality; recognized for its well-documented anti-nausea and anti-inflammatory effects.
Ingredient Quantities
- 4 cups of cold filtered water
- 1 whole cucumber, thinly sliced
- 1 lemon, thinly sliced
- 1 lime, thinly sliced
- 10-12 fresh mint leaves
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
- Ice cubes (optional)
Instructions
1. Start by washing the cucumber, lemon, and lime very well under cold running water. This gets rid of any impurities that might be on your produce.
2. Using a sharp knife to guarantee even slicing, cut the cucumber, lemon, and lime into thin slices.
3. Slice thinly a small piece of fresh ginger, using about a teaspoon’s worth of slices.
4. Carefully wash the mint leaves with water to get rid of any impurities or particles.
5. In a big pitcher, put together the cucumber, lemon, lime, ginger, and mint leaves, preparing them in even layers.
6. Over the ingredients in the pitcher, pour 4 cups of cold, filtered water and make sure all the sliced fruit is submerged.
7. Using a long spoon, stir the compound slowly. This is not a vigorous activity. The idea is to help the flavors of the ingredients escape and blend into the water.
8. Shield the pitcher and set it in the refrigerator for a minimum of 2 hours. Let the flavors meld.
9. Prior to serving, once more give the mixture a gentle stir. Then, if you want it extra-chilly, add some ice cubes.
10. The infused, skinny water should be poured into clear glasses where each portion consists of the beverage as well as a selection of the sliced and sliced mint. Refresh many of your friends and relatives with servings that elegantly mix the two elements together.

FAQ
- What is Skinny Water?Skinny Water is an excellent beverage choice when you’re trying to hydrate. It has the unmistakable taste of light cucumber, which is complemented by citrus and mint flavors. To round out the profile, the drink has a subtle hint of ginger to ensure that it is not too watery.
- Can I prepare Skinny Water ahead of time?Of course, it can be done a few hours ahead. The flavors need to infuse, ideally for 2-4 hours, in the refrigerator.
- How long does Skinny Water last? The flavors are freshest if consumed within 24 hours after preparation, with ingredient quality being the main factor. Beyond 24 hours, ingredients have the potential of losing flavor if not stored and maintained properly.
- Can I use sparkling water instead of filtered water?Indeed, you can use sparkling water to create a fizzy version of your Skinny Water. This brings a certain delightful effervescence to the drink that you just won’t want to miss.
- Is Skinny Water suitable for a detox diet?Although it is not a detox remedy by itself, it can be a healthy and hydrating component of your diet that works synergistically with your detox regimen and its infused contents.
- Are there any variations I can try?Add fruits such as oranges or berries, or herbs like basil, to customize the flavor to your liking.
- Can I skip the ginger if I don’t like its taste?Indeed, ginger is not a mandatory ingredient. It can be omitted entirely or added in amounts that conform to one’s taste, while allowing the other flavors to maintain their integrity.
Substitutions and Variations
To replicate the cool crunch of cucumbers: Try using thinly sliced zucchini or celery for a similar refreshing bite.
For lemon: Use thinly sliced oranges or grapefruit to achieve a sweeter, citrus-infused flavor.
For lime: Replace with thinly sliced kiwi for a unique, slightly tangy flavor.
For mint leaves: Use fresh basil or cilantro for an aromatic twist.
If you’re out of fresh ginger, you can substitute it with a teaspoon of grated turmeric or lemongrass for a different but equally zesty flavor profile.
